Conditions of Contest
Tenth Annual Junior Collegiate Team Championships
The CoC for this year's
contest has changed very little from that of last year.
All registrants for the tournament should be familiar with the rules before
registration and reference them during play if necessary.
Dates and Times
The event will be held Saturday and Sunday, February 25th and 26th, 2006
on OKBridge. On Saturday there will be an IMP Pairs tournament at 10:00
AM Pacific Time (12 noon Central Time; 1 pm Eastern Time) to determine
the four teams that will compete in head-to-head KO matches to be held
on Sunday at 10:00 AM PST or a time to be arranged between the advancing
captains.
Sponsoring Organizations
Sponsored by Okbridge and The Fifth Chair Foundation, this event is sanctioned
by the American Contract Bridge League and will award ACBL masterpoints.
The Laws of Duplicate Bridge, ACBL version, and ACBL Tournament Rules
and Regulations will apply to all phases of this contest.
All players will be expected to conduct themselves in an ethical and orderly
manner according to the Laws of Duplicate Bridge.
Eligibility
The event is open to all Juniors (under 26) who are currently enrolled
in a college or university. A team must consist of four, five or six players,
with at least two of its members attending the same school. All team members
must agree to play under the name of one college or university.
Participants will be supplied with a complimentary, temporary OKBridge
membership up to two weeks prior to the event. Participants will be expected
to familiarize themselves with the features of the software before the
event begins.
Substitutions
In the event of connection problems substitutions will be allowed. Each
team may have stand-by substitutes that meet the eligibility requirements
to play in this event. In the event that no team substitute is available,
the director has the right to select a substitute that meets the eligibility
requirements and that maintains the legal number of players from the specified
college or university in order to ensure the timely progression of the
event.
Qualifying Round
The qualifying round will be a 30 board IMP Pair game. Each team must
enter two or three pairs into this event and each player in a partnership
must be a member of the same team. If there are five player teams, those
teams will enter only two pairs in the qualifying round.
Pairs that meet another pair from their team in the rotation will sit
out that round.
Highly unusual methods, or conventions that are unusual and require defenses
which must be discussed by a partnership in advance will not be allowed
in the qualifying round. Any team in doubt about their methods being permitted
should submit a convention card with their registration email including
a full description of the conventions and a recommended defense. The director
in charge of the event will make the final decision about allowing the
convention.
The IMP Pairs game will be scored by Average IMPs per board. At the end
of the pair game, the Average IMPs per board will be multiplied by the
number of boards played by each pair. The totals for all pairs on the
same team will be added together and divided by the total of all boards
played by all pairs on the same team.
The four top scoring teams will qualify to play the semi-finals on Sunday.
Semifinals and Finals
The top qualifying team will choose the third or fourth place team as
their opponents for the semifinal round.
Highly unusual methods will not be allowed in the semi-final or final
matches. However, some methods not permitted in the qualifying round may
be approved by the director in charge for the semifinal or final round
if the team has submitted an OKbridge convention card with the convention
fully described and with recommended defenses.
The semifinal and the final will be 20 board matches. After 10 boards,
the teams may take a break and get their scores. In the event of a tie,
an 8 board playoff to be played at a mutually agreeable time.
Director in Charge
The director in charge of the event is the final authority for interpreting
the conditions of contest. Any situation not specifically covered in these
conditions will be decided by the director in charge.
