Fifth Chair’s Current Volunteer Needs

Fifth Chair is entirely staffed and all services are provided by volunteers. Fifth Chair volunteers are people who are willing to contribute their time and expertise to bringing a new generation of players into the game they love.

At present there are several available volunteer positions. If there is a specific niche you would like to fill, but do not find it listed below, please email volunteers@fifthchair.org directly with your interests and qualifications.

Program Manager
A Fifth Chair Program Manager is a dedicated volunteer with the time, skills, and energy to devote to organizing a specific program or programs on an online bridge playing service. At this time Fifth Chair is seeking Program Managers to manage programs on E-Bridge and the MSN Gaming Zone.

Patience, tact, and good organizational skills are key characteristics of a successful Program Manager. Program Managers make three reports each year to the Fifth Chair board on the status of their programs. These are long-term positions and record-keeping is important.

If you are interested in being a volunteer Program Manager please fill out the Program Manager Application.

Mentors
Mentors are advanced players who agree to play at least one one-hour learning session with their adopted learner per week (an average), answer questions via e-mail, and generally support their learner’s bridge education process. Experience, patience, interest, and humor are important characteristics of the successful mentor. When mentors receive their assigned learner they will also get a list of suggestions and guidelines about mentoring. Fifth Chair Program Managers place beginners, novices, and intermediate players with mentors.

If you would like to apply to be a mentor, please fill out the appropriate Mentor Application for either Bridge Base Online or OKBridge.  If you are interested in both services fill out the application for OKBridge and check the box for "Also interested in BBO".

Attorney
On rare occasions, Fifth Chair needs the consulting services of an attorney qualified to practice in the United States. Please email volunteers@fifthchair.org and put “Attorney” in the subject line. Please provide a cover letter and resume of your legal expertise, a description of your online playing experience and expertise, and your availability.  This is a pro bono position!

Development Volunteer
Fifth Chair is presently seeking an experienced development volunteer to raise funds for future programs. Special events, corporate donations and individual donations are all of interest. Please email volunteers@fifthchair.org and put “Development” in the subject line. Please provide a description of your fund-raising, bridge, and organizational experience, along with information on why you would be interested in the position.
